Tubbercurry Golf Club news on Sunday 7th February 2016


This years Pub Quiz gets underway on Tuesday 9th Feb at 9.30 in Murphys Hotel. Our Golf Club team (who are last years champions) are drawn against The Killorans Super Team. Come along to support and enjoy the fun

S.M.S. Super League: After two rounds of the Seamus Mc Sorley S.M.S. Super League, there are some clear leaders in some of the groups. While weather conditions are poor and challenging, some teams are returning great scores.

After two rounds the leaders are:

50/50 draw
The recent 50/50 was held on Friday 5th Feb in Kilnaskully bar. Winner of €20 in-house draw was Joey Wimsey.
The pot of €277 was won by Monica Tahaney, Tubbercurry. The next draw will be held in the May Queen on Friday 19th Feb.
Envelopes are €2 each or 3 for €5 & are available in most businesses in town or in the clubhouse. The proceeds from the 50/50 are used to refurbish the clubhouse and course development.
This year the club is 25 years in existence and celebrations will take place to mark the event as part of that redecorating was needed in the clubhouse.

Membership starts on 1st January and ends on 31st Dec. It is important for club finances that members pay their membership as soon as possible. The memberhip committee is composed of Bridgie Clarke, Mary Kilcoyne, Padraig McDonagh, Gerard Henry, Paul F O'Donnell, Tommy Clarke, John T. Marren.
Members are asked to give their membership to any member of the committee.

Martin Cahill

The death took place at the weekend of our friend, Martin Cahill. Martin, an esteemed member of Tubbercurry golf club, was a very active member of the club since its establishment and represented the club with honour in many inter club matches. He won may competitions and traveled widely to play the game of golf.  The members of the club were saddened when word spread of his death. The captain John T. Marren and the lady captain Mrs Pat Kelly together with the presidents Eamon McGinley and Geraldine Davy and all the members extend sincere sympathy to Martins family. May he rest in peace. 


All the members of the club offer sympathy to Pierce Henry and his family on the death of his brother Joe.

Failte weekend and 25th anniversary celebrations - This year the club celebrate 25 years in existence. To celebrate the club is holding a failte weekend on July 1st 2nd and 3rd.

The ILGU are this year embarking on a project to help girls in the 10 to 14 age bracket further their skill in the game of golf.  Four session will be held in the following venues
Longford on 14th Feb
Westport on 28th Feb
Glenlo Abbey 13th March. 

Each session starts at 12 noon and concludes at 4 p.m.  It will include a golf clinic, scramble and indoor activities. PGA  Aidan Moran will be in charge of each session.  It is hoped to select 15-20 girls from these days who show promise, commitment and a dedication to the game to go forward for a specific coaching programme run by the ILGU. Closing date is 25th January.

Course Design

Tubbercurry, although a relatively new course, founded in 1991, is a challenging nine-hole.  Its feature hole is the 6th, a 158-meter, par 3, index 12 played from an elevated tee-box, to a difficult green below.  It has spectacular views of the Ox, mountains and surrounding countryside.Tubbercurry has constructed a new clubhouse that caters for the golfers every need. It is renowned its warm friendliness, which extends to visitors.

Societies are welcome and group rates available.
